Description
The FX Series represents a new generation of multiple output laboratory power supplies from Aim-TTi offering touchscreen control of PowerFlex multi-channel outputs within a compact format at a new price point.
There are two models: FX100DP and FX100TP. The 'D' in the model name suffix indicates a 'dual output' output power supply and the 'T' is for 'Triple'. Channels 1 and 2 are capable of up to 42V or 6A within a 105W power envelope. Channel 3 of the FX100TP is a conventional output capable of up to 6V and 6A (36W).
PowerFlex Regulation for flexible output voltage and current capabilities
A conventional PSU has a fixed maximum current limit giving a power capability that reduces directly with output voltage. The TTi PowerFlex design enables higher currents to be generated at lower voltages or higher voltages to be generated at lower currents within an overall power limit envelope. Whereas it's common for a conventional power supply series to be available in different voltage and current combinations in order to cover a range of applications, a PowerFlex design allows one device to replace multiple such units.
The FX100DP and FX100TP both have two PowerFlex outputs capable of up to 42V or up to 6A within a power limit envelope of 105W. The FX100TP has an additional conventional power supply channel capable of 6V and 6A (36W).
Touchscreen LCD for clear and complete information
The high contrast 4.3" LCD provides complete information at a glance.
Display and control for all outputs is available simultaneously from the Home (default) screen.
The voltage and current meter readings are greyed out when the outputs are off, and yellow (as shown) when the outputs are active. The set values are visible at the same time as the actual measured values, along with the power output in watts.
The current meter has user settable averaging / damping to assist with unsteady current readings.
Direct numeric entry
Settings can be made by direct numeric entry using the on screen keypad.
Each new setting is previewed on the display and is confirmed with the OK key before being actioned.
Dual rotary control
The FX series has two rotary encoders; the top one is used for both general menu use and for setting voltage on the selected output.
The second controller is used for adjusting current settings
Up to 1mV and 1mA resolution
On the FX Series, all channels have 1mV and 1mA setting resolution.
These high resolutions are matched by high setting and read-back accuracy along with excellent line and load regulation.
Local or remote sensing
All outputs incorporate remote sense terminals that can be enabled or disabled at the flick of a switch.
Remote sensing is essential for maintaining precise regulation at the load and true metering of the load voltage
Many other power supplies omit remote sense, and quote regulation figures that could never be achieved in practice.
Individual On/Off buttons
Each output has its own On/Off button enabling outputs to be switched independently as required
The key is illuminated when On for maximum clarity.
Multi On/Off
Many circuits can be damaged if one voltage rail is present without another, and even if it isn't, the convenience of being able to power or disconnect all outputs simultaneously is undeniable.
The FX Series supports multi on/off switching so that any or all outputs can be set to go on and off together.
Isolated voltage tracking
By default all the outputs are fully independent as well as fully isolated.
Voltage tracking enables the voltage of channel 2 to follow channel 1. The outputs remain isolated so they can be used to create tracking rails or used for series/parallel wiring when higher voltages or currents are required.
Stores for 25 setups
Non-volatile stores are incorporated for rapid storage and recall of device configurations.
OVP and OCP Trips
Variable trips for over-voltage protection (OVP) and over-current protection (OCP) are provided on each output.
Unlike a limit setting, the trip setting turns the output off and provides a different level of protection. For example, when repetitively testing a unit which normally takes a peak current of 4A, the current limit could be set to 5A and the OCP to 4.1A to ensure that a faulty unit will trip the supply off and not be damaged by over dissipation.
Front panel lock-out
An illuminated front panel key locks out the front panel to guard against accidental operation or mis-setting. This is a simple "Press to lock" and "press and hold" to unlock.
Safety binding-post terminals
FX series power supplies are fitted with the Aim-TTi designed safety output terminals which are touch proof and safety rated to 150 volts.
These can accept a 4mm safety plug with rigid insulating sleeve, a requirement specified by an increasing number of laboratories for safety reasons.
However, unlike the 4mm safety sockets used on some other products, these terminals can also accept fork connectors or bare wires, giving maximum connection flexibility.
Compact 3U casing
The FX series are housed in a compact 200mm wide case that is 140mm high and 300mm deep and uses minimal space on your bench or shelf.
Front input ventilation and smart fan
Front input and rear exhaust ventilation ensures that no additional space is needed above, below or to the sides of the unit and the absence of vents in the top panel means that the unit is less vulnerable to liquid spills or small objects falling inside.
Cooling uses an intelligent fan control that produces very little noise but speeds up at higher dissipation levels.
Digital Remote Control
To meet the varying needs of today's engineers the FX series comes as standard with a USB port which provides full control of voltage, current, and output on/off, plus read-back of voltage, current and status. The interface is opto-isolated from the outputs and also provides a means to update the instrument's firmware. The USB port implements a virtual COM port.
Command Set and IVI Driver
The basic command set for the FX Series is SCPI compatible as with other Aim-TTi power supplies such as the PL-P, QL-P and CPX-P series. The full command set is documented at the end of the operation manual.
Control Software
Test Bridge Windows software (free download) can control the FX series over USB. It enables logging, sequencing and control of up to four products and is compatible with many instruments from the Aim-TTi range.
